Angola is set to make history as the first Portuguese-speaking nation to host the 12th Africa Federation of Teaching Regulatory Authorities (AFTRA) Conference and the 14th Roundtable in 2025. The milestone event will bring together education experts, policymakers, and regulatory bodies from across the continent to discuss strategies for strengthening the teaching profession.
During a preparatory meeting held in Lubango, AFTRA President Dr. Ebby Mubanga expressed gratitude to the Angolan government for accepting the request to host this significant conference. He commended Angola for its commitment to advancing education and congratulated the nation on its upcoming 50th Independence Anniversary, which will be celebrated later this year.
Dr. Mubanga, who also serves as the Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ) Registrar, emphasized AFTRA’s dedication to supporting Angola in organizing a successful event. He highlighted the importance of the conference in fostering collaboration among African teaching regulatory bodies to enhance educational standards and professional development across the continent.
The just concluded AFTRA Executive Board Meeting was honored by the presence of the Vice Governor of Huila Province, Ms. Maria Joao Francisco Chipalavela. In her remarks, the Vice Governor reaffirmed Angola’s strong commitment to education and its willingness to partner with international organizations like AFTRA to drive meaningful reforms in the sector.
“The government of Angola places a high premium on education, and we are honored to host this historic conference. We pledge our full commitment to ensuring its success, as it aligns with our national priorities for educational transformation,” said Vice Governor Chipalavela.
The AFTRA Conference and Roundtable, scheduled to take place from May 5th to 10th, 2025, will serve as a platform for key stakeholders to exchange knowledge, share best practices, and develop policies that will shape the future of teaching regulation in Africa. With Angola at the helm, this event is expected to be a landmark occasion in the evolution of the continent’s educational framework.
