HISTORIC MILESTONE AS FIRST DIESEL CONSIGNMENT SUCCESSFULLY OFFLOADED UNDER TAZAMA OPEN ACCESS INITIATIVE

In a landmark achievement for regional energy logistics, the Ministry of Energy has announced the successful offloading of the inaugural diesel consignment under the TAZAMA Open Access system at the port of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This accomplishment marks a new chapter in the nation’s pursuit of a more efficient, transparent, and competitive petroleum supply chain.

The vessel MT ISABELLA docked on 31st March and commenced discharging operations on 5th April, with the process concluding seamlessly on 8th April 2025 at precisely 19:45 hours Tanzanian time. A total of 94,629 metric tonnes of diesel was transferred into TAZAMA storage tanks, signifying the operational readiness and effectiveness of the Open Access framework.

The cargo, imported by Titanium Oil Corporation/ADNOC Joint Venture, Boltt Global Solutions Limited, and Indeni Energy Company Limited, highlights the inclusive nature of the new system, which allows multiple players to utilise the pipeline infrastructure equitably.

“This milestone demonstrates our unwavering commitment to ensuring a robust and secure energy supply chain,” the Ministry of Energy stated. “It reflects the collective dedication of all stakeholders to operational excellence and sector-wide reforms.”

The Ministry extended its commendation to the Energy Regulation Board, TAZAMA Pipelines Limited, the importing companies, and the technical teams for their professionalism and collaborative spirit, which were pivotal to the smooth execution of this operation.

The Open Access system is designed to democratise the use of the TAZAMA pipeline, paving the way for increased competition, enhanced energy security, and economic growth. It embodies the Government’s broader vision of fostering innovation, transparency, and resilience in Zambia’s energy landscape.

“As we move forward, we remain committed to deepening reforms that will sustain these gains, strengthen our energy sector, and contribute meaningfully to the country’s long-term sustainable development,” the Ministry affirmed.

This successful offloading signals not just an operational triumph, but a strategic advancement in the region’s quest for energy self-sufficiency and economic inclusivity.
