CULTURAL MAJESTY ON THE WATERS, NALOLO’S ROYAL PROCESSION UNITES TRADITION AND COMMUNITY

In a splendid celebration of heritage and unity, the revered Kuomboka Ceremony of Her Royal Highness, the Litunga la Mboela of Lwambi Chiefdom, unfolded today with grandeur and cultural pride.

The iconic event, deeply embedded in the cultural fabric of Western Zambia, once again drew thousands to bear witness to a living tradition that continues to thrive across generations.

Her Royal Highness, endearingly hailed as the “Queen of the South,” embarked on her ceremonial voyage from the historic Nalolo Palace to her seasonal residence at Muoyo Palace. With the royal barge cutting gracefully through the waters, the procession symbolised not only the changing seasons but also the enduring spirit and leadership of the Lwambi Chiefdom. Adorned with regal splendour, the Queen’s journey is a vivid reminder of the rich history and social cohesion of the Lozi people.

This year’s ceremony is elevated by the presence of high-ranking government officials, reflecting its national significance. Hon. Kapelwa Mbangweta, MP and Minister for Western Province, is honouring the occasion as the Guest of Honour. He has been joined by an esteemed delegation, including Mr. Richard Mulwanda, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Western Province, Mongu District Commissioner Mr. Morgan Akabeswa, and other senior officials, whose attendance underscores the government’s recognition of cultural heritage as a pillar of national identity.

The atmosphere along the riverbanks was electric, filled with vibrant drumming, traditional chants, and the rhythmic paddling of the royal entourage. Community members and visitors alike gathered in the festive spirit, celebrating not only a cultural rite but also a unifying force that brings people together in honour of their shared history.
