The Government has officially launched the Kenneth Kaunda Day Golf Tournament 2025, an event designed not only to honour the legacy of Zambia’s First Republican President but also to inspire national unity through sport and service.

Announced by the Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts, Hon. Elvis C. Nkandu, MP, the tournament will take place on 28th April 2025 at the State House Golf Course in Lusaka, serving as a key commemorative event in honour of Dr. Kenneth David Kaunda, the Father of the Nation.

“This event is more than a sporting occasion—it is a tribute to the values that Dr. Kaunda stood for: peace, unity, dignity, and devotion to the welfare of all Zambians,” Hon. Nkandu said at the launch. “He believed in the power of sport as a tool for personal discipline and national cohesion, and this tournament reflects that spirit.”

Participants will include seasoned golfers, emerging youth players, members of the diplomatic corps, senior government officials, and representatives from the private sector. The event will feature separate sessions for junior and senior players, with a ceremonial prize-giving to close the day.

In keeping with Dr. Kaunda’s lifelong dedication to humanitarian causes, all proceeds from the tournament will benefit Cheshire Homes, an institution that supports the differently abled and vulnerable members of society—an initiative that mirrors KK’s compassion and vision for inclusive development.

Beyond the golf course, the Minister called on all Zambians to embrace the spirit of Kenneth Kaunda Day by organizing commemorative activities at the community level. Schools, churches, district offices, and civil society groups are encouraged to mark the day with community service, intergenerational dialogues, sporting events, cultural showcases, and educational programmes.

“We want this to be a national moment of reflection and collective action,” Hon. Nkandu said. “Every village, school, and street can become a platform to honour the values of KK and inspire the next generation of patriotic leaders.”

The KK Day Golf Tournament is envisioned as a flagship annual event, reinforcing the role of sport in national remembrance and civic engagement while celebrating one of Zambia’s most revered leaders.
