The official opening of Ellesia Lodge Limited in Chilanga marks a significant milestone in the evolution of Zambia’s tourism industry. Officiated by the Honourable Rodney M. Sikumba, MP and Minister of Tourism, the launch signals a strategic shift toward strengthening local tourism infrastructure and highlights the crucial role of private sector participation—especially through small and medium enterprises—in driving sustainable growth.
Located just outside Lusaka, Shimabala Area, Chilanga, is emerging as a key destination for both business and leisure travel. The inauguration of Ellesia Lodge is more than just the addition of another hospitality establishment; it represents a targeted investment in the region’s tourism potential. The lodge features 56 well-appointed rooms, a state-of-the-art conference facility, recreational areas, and a swimming pool—positioning it to serve a broad clientele ranging from corporate travelers to domestic tourists.
As articulated in Zambia’s Tourism Master Plan, infrastructure development, service quality, and investment attraction remain central pillars in enhancing the country’s regional competitiveness. Ellesia Lodge aligns with these national priorities, offering not only modern amenities but also contributing to the broader goal of diversifying and expanding the hospitality landscape.
“Chilanga’s unique blend of accessibility and natural charm makes it an ideal gateway for visitors,” remarked Minister Sikumba during the ceremony. “Ellesia Lodge adds significant value to our tourism offerings, enabling us to meet rising demand while fostering inclusive economic development.”
The lodge also stands as a testament to the power of local entrepreneurship. Built over nine years with a total investment of $1.6 million, Ellesia Lodge is the result of the vision, resilience, and commitment of its proprietors, Mr. and Mrs. Simbeye. Their efforts have culminated in a tangible contribution to Zambia’s national development objectives—creating employment, stimulating the local economy, and raising the standard of service in the country’s mid-tier hospitality segment.
The government continues to prioritize support for SMEs within the tourism sector, recognizing their potential to generate broad-based economic benefits. Minister Sikumba reiterated this commitment, emphasizing that the country’s tourism strategy is not only focused on growth, but on empowering Zambians to lead and innovate within the sector. “Our goal is not just to grow tourism,” he said, “but to ensure that Zambians are at the forefront of shaping that growth.”
With its doors now open, Ellesia Lodge stands as a compelling example of what strategic, locally driven investment can achieve. It reinforces the narrative of a dynamic, evolving tourism sector in Zambia—one that is increasingly defined by quality, inclusivity, and long-term sustainability.
