Senanga, Western Province, Zambia.
In a demonstration of support for President Hakainde Hichilema’s free education policy, Kids Alive Zambia has donated assorted educational materials and sanitary supplies to learners in Western Province.
The donation, presented during the Day of the African Child commemorations in Senanga, included essential school supplies such as books, pens, pencils and sanitary towels. The items were officially handed over to the Ministry of Education through the Senanga District Education Board Secretary and received by Western Province Permanent Secretary Mr. Simomo Akapelwa.
Speaking on behalf of Kids Alive Zambia (Mongu) Mofu Chilambwe emphasized the organisation’s commitment to complementing government efforts in improving access to quality education, particularly for underprivileged children.
“This gesture aligns with our belief that every child should have access to tools that enhance both learning and personal dignity,” Chilambwe stated.
Western Province PS Mr. Akapelwa commended the organisation for their continued partnership with the government, noting that the support, especially the provision of sanitary towels, would help address barriers to education faced by girls.
“This kind of support not only reinforces the free education policy but also creates a more inclusive and conducive learning environment. We call on other stakeholders to emulate this initiative,” said Mr. Akapelwa.
Observed annually on June 16, the Day of the African Child highlights the rights of children and calls attention to the challenges they face across the continent. This year’s commemorations served as a platform to reaffirm multisectoral collaboration in promoting child welfare and education in Zambia.
