A police officer from the Zambia Police Paramilitary Unit has been taken into custody following the unlawful discharge of a firearm in a residential area of Bauleni Compound earlier this morning.
According to a statement issued by Woodlands Police Station, the incident occurred around 06:30 hours and was promptly reported by concerned members of the public. The officer, identified as Constable Zuka, allegedly fired an AK-47 rifle without lawful cause in a public setting, prompting swift intervention from local authorities.
Following the report, Bauleni Police Post officers acted immediately, disarmed Constable Zuka and secured the AK-47 rifle used in the incident. He was subsequently transferred to Woodlands Main Police Station, where he remains in custody pending formal charges. He is expected to appear before the court in the coming days.
The Zambia Police Service has issued a strong condemnation of the officer’s actions, reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy on professional misconduct. In a statement, the Service emphasized its unwavering commitment to maintaining discipline, integrity and accountability within the ranks.
“We remain committed to ensuring that our officers adhere to the highest standards of conduct and professionalism. Incidents such as these will be met with decisive action,” the statement read.
