ZAMBIA POLICE ARREST ZAMBIAN FARMER MARIA ZALOUMIS AND FOUR OTHERS IN CONNECTION WITH KABWE MURDER CASE

‎The Zambia Police Service has confirmed the arrest and detention of five suspects in connection with the murder of Mr. Enock Simfukwe Kasengele, who died at Kabwe Central Hospital in the early hours of August 17, 2025.

‎Mr. Kasengele was initially detained by police for Acts Intended to Cause Grievous Harm after a complaint was lodged by Ms. Maria Zaloumis, 40, who alleged that the deceased had been hired by unknown persons to attack her with acid. Shortly after his detention, he was rushed to hospital, where he later died at around 01:10 hours.

‎A postmortem examination conducted on August 20, 2025, at Kabwe Central Hospital revealed that his death was caused by blunt force head injury, brain contusion and brain edema.

‎Following investigations, police have detained the following suspects in connection with the case:

‎1. Mr. Nathaniel Barthram, 34, a farmer of Nigerian origin and husband to Ms. Zaloumis,


‎2. Mr. Gift Daka, 23,

‎3. Mr. Fortune Mutangeti, 27,

‎4. Mr. Daniel Chilowa, 40, all employees at Farm No. 5, Munyama,

‎5. Ms. Maria Zaloumis, 40, of Tuzini Farms, Munyama area, Chisamba District.


‎The Zambia Police Service has appealed for calm from the public, assuring that the matter will be handled in accordance with the law. Further updates will be issued as investigations continue.
