ZESCO GIVES HOPE TO SANDE VILLAGE HEALTH POST IN MANSA

ZESCO Limited has once again shown its commitment to helping communities beyond its power lines. The company donated medical supplies and essential items to Sande Village Rural Health Post in Chief Mabumba’s area, Mansa District, as part of its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) program.

The health post serves over 4,000 people and attends to more than 300 patients each month, but has been struggling with challenges such as lack of electricity and shortage of medical equipment.

Nurse Gershom Chimpinde thanked ZESCO for the support, saying the donation will help improve maternal health and reduce infection risks.

“We really need help to build a maternity annex because the number of patients keeps growing,” he said. “Right now, we don’t have power because the lines were vandalized, and it’s difficult to deliver babies at night.”

Speaking during the handover, ZESCO Board Chairperson Mr. Vickson Ncube said the utility recognizes the sacrifices made by communities that host power generation projects.

“My wish would have been to deliver a solar solution where mothers can give birth with proper lighting and not just from a phone,” he said. “We take these concerns seriously and will look into ways to help.”

The donation included baby diapers, BP machines, and maternity sanitary pads, among other items, to help improve service delivery at the facility.

Mr. Ncube added that with the Mansa 50MW Solar Power Plant now 70% complete, nearby areas — including Sande Village — will soon benefit from reliable electricity, improving health care and other services.

This gesture reflects ZESCO’s belief that true development goes beyond supplying electricity — it’s about empowering communities and improving lives.
