The National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) has taken a monumental step in preserving Zambia’s rich sporting history by presenting its newly published book, “Our Story Since 1964”, to the Minister of Youth, Sport, and Arts, Hon. Elvis C. Nkandu.
The book, set to be officially launched on January 24, 2025, offers a comprehensive account of Zambia’s sporting journey since independence.
It highlights the genesis of the Olympic Movement in the country, chronicles key achievements and celebrates the individuals who have shaped Zambia’s sports landscape over the decades.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, NOCZ President Mr. Alfred Foloko, accompanied by Secretary General Mr. Boniface Kambikambi and other officials, emphasized the significance of documenting the nation’s sporting milestones.
Minister Nkandu lauded the initiative, describing the book as an invaluable resource for both current and future generations.
“This book is a testament to the passion, resilience and dedication of Zambian athletes and administrators. It will serve as an important tool for young people to understand our nation’s sporting heritage and inspire them to contribute to Zambia’s continued success on the global stage,” Hon. Nkandu stated.
The publication not only narrates Zambia’s sporting achievements but also profiles influential figures whose leadership and contributions have driven the growth of various disciplines.
It provides insights into the challenges and triumphs that have shaped Zambia’s sporting identity, both locally and internationally.
During the presentation, Hon. Nkandu also congratulated Mr. Foloko on his recent re-election as Vice President of the African Judo Union.

“Mr. Foloko’s re-election is a source of pride for the entire nation. It reflects Zambia’s potential and credibility on the global sports stage, encouraging other administrators to aspire for similar accomplishments,” he said.
Hon. Nkandu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering sports development and strengthening partnerships with organizations like the NOCZ.
He emphasized that such collaborations are essential to ensuring that Zambia’s athletes and sports administrators continue to thrive and represent the nation with excellence.
