Ministry of Defence Permanent Secretary Mr. Norman Chipakupaku has paid tribute to Namibia’s founding father, the late Dr. Sam Nujoma, describing him as a towering figure in Africa’s liberation history.
Speaking after signing the book of condolences at the Namibian High Commission in Lusaka, Mr. Chipakupaku reflected on Dr. Nujoma’s instrumental role in the struggle for independence across Southern Africa.
He emphasized that Dr. Nujoma stood alongside other African liberation icons such as Dr. Kenneth Kaunda, Dr. Robert Mugabe, Julius Nyerere, and Nelson Mandela in the fight against colonial rule.
“Africa has lost one of the last giants of the liberation struggle. Dr. Nujoma’s contribution to the independence of Namibia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and South Africa remains an indelible mark in our history,” said Mr. Chipakupaku.
He further noted that Dr. Nujoma was a key architect of the Front Line States, a coalition that played a pivotal role in supporting liberation movements across the region.
He urged the younger generation to uphold the legacy of Africa’s forefathers and recognize the sacrifices made for the continent’s freedom.
Highlighting the deep-rooted historical ties between Zambia and Namibia, Mr. Chipakupaku recalled that Zambia’s founding president, Dr. Kaunda, shared a close bond with Dr. Nujoma.
This relationship laid the foundation for the strong diplomatic ties that exist between the two nations today.
“Our 4th Republican President, Rupiah Banda, played a significant role in Namibia’s transition to independence during its administration under the United Nations. This history cements the strong relationship
