The Bank of Zambia (BoZ) embarked on an extensive nationwide sensitization campaign ahead of the official launch of a new family of the Zambian currency on March 31, 2025. The initiative aims to educate the public on the upcoming changes, ensuring a smooth transition and widespread understanding of the redesigned banknotes and coins.
As part of this campaign, BoZ representatives have been actively engaging key stakeholders across the country. In Southern Province, officials paid courtesy visits to Provincial Permanent Secretary, Dr. Namani Monze, and several traditional leaders, including Chief Macha, Chief Cooma, Chief Mapanza (Choma District), and Chief Mungaila (Namwala District). These engagements serve to enhance awareness and foster collaboration in disseminating critical information about the new currency.
Beyond direct engagements, BoZ has leveraged various communication platforms to maximize outreach. The team has featured on multiple radio programs, using these channels to address public concerns and answer questions about the currency transition. Additionally, in-person sensitization activities have been conducted across the province, allowing communities to interact directly with BoZ representatives and gain firsthand knowledge of the upcoming changes.
BoZ continues to emphasize the importance of familiarizing the public with the new currency features, particularly focusing on security enhancements, durability, and design elements reflecting Zambia’s rich cultural and historical identity.
With just weeks remaining before the March 31 launch, BoZ is committed to ensuring that every Zambian is well-informed and prepared for the transition. The sensitization campaign will continue in other provinces, reinforcing the central bank’s dedication to financial literacy and public confidence in the national currency.
