The Copperbelt Police Service has reaffirmed its dedication to modernizing law enforcement practices, with government officials highlighting the ongoing transformation aimed at enhancing public trust and crime prevention strategies.
Speaking at the Copperbelt Police Open Day, Copperbelt Province Permanent Secretary, Mr. Lawrence Mwanza, emphasized the government’s focus on adopting modern investigative techniques to make policing more proactive, transparent, and community-driven.
Mr. Mwanza stressed that the shift towards a more interactive Police Service will require officers to be increasingly accountable and engaged with the public. He noted that crime prevention initiatives would play a crucial role in reducing criminal activities and fostering safer communities.
“The role of the Police Service goes beyond reacting to crime—it is about protecting citizens, solving crimes, and strengthening relationships with the community. The Police play a vital role in making society a better and safer place for all,” Mr. Mwanza said.
He further acknowledged the often-overlooked contributions of police officers, stating that while their work may not always be recognized, it remains indispensable in times of crisis.
“The government remains committed to supporting the Police Service in modernizing its operations. Our goal is to serve all Zambians, regardless of their background, and we expect police officers to uphold their duty of maintaining law and order with dedication and professionalism,” he added.
Meanwhile, Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer, Mr. Peacewell Mweemba, commended police officers for their unwavering commitment to protecting the public, often at great personal risk.
He emphasized that the Police Open Day serves as a platform for fostering confidence and trust between law enforcement and the community, allowing the public to better understand police operations and their role in ensuring security.
As the government continues its efforts to modernize policing in Zambia, the Open Day underscored the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and the public in building a safer and more secure society.
