Chilanga, Lusaka Province, Zambia.
In response to President Hakainde Hichilema’s national call encouraging civic leaders to maximize the use of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) resources, Councillor Misheck Mweemba of Chilanga Ward has taken a proactive and impactful step by spearheading infrastructure development within the Beresford Community of Chilanga Constituency.
Currently underway is the grading of a 13-kilometre stretch of the Beresford Road, a critical artery for the community’s connectivity and economic activity. This initiative is being carried out using heavy-duty machinery—namely a grader, roller, compactor, and water bowser—procured through the CDF and made accessible by the Chilanga Town Council.
What sets this project apart is the collaborative spirit it embodies. While the government provides the equipment, the residents of Beresford Community have come forward to contribute essential resources such as fuel and gravel. This partnership between local leadership and community members demonstrates a sustainable model of development where shared responsibility accelerates progress.
Councillor Mweemba has been at the helm of this effort, effectively mobilizing both community participation and institutional support to ensure the smooth execution of the roadworks. His leadership has been widely acknowledged as a key factor in the project’s success.
Appreciation has also been extended to Chilanga Constituency Member of Parliament, Hon. Sipho Hlazo, and Chilanga Council Chairperson, Mr. Champion Tembo, for their unwavering support and advocacy for local development. Their involvement underscores a coordinated approach between elected officials and local authorities in actualizing community-driven projects.
The ongoing roadworks are expected to significantly improve mobility, enhance access to essential services, and stimulate local economic growth in the Beresford area. This project stands as a commendable example of how CDF resources, when effectively utilized, can yield tangible and lasting benefits for grassroots communities.
