Dr. Michael Chilala, Executive Director of the Examinations Council of Zambia (ECZ), is spearheading a crucial initiative in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he is leading a team of experts in developing the Common Assessment Framework for Africa (CAFA). This initiative is supported by UNESCO in collaboration with the Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA) and the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA).
The CAFA aims to standardize the recognition of academic qualifications across the continent, facilitating the seamless mobility of students and labor under the African Union (AU) Qualification Framework. Additionally, it seeks to establish a robust foundation for Data-Driven Decision Making (DDDM) in education, ensuring that policymakers and educational agencies within the AU have access to reliable data for strategic planning and policy formulation.
This milestone underscores Africa’s commitment to enhancing the quality, comparability, and recognition of education credentials, ultimately strengthening the continent’s human capital development.
