In a powerful display of state traditional partnership, the Government of the Republic of Zambia and the Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) have reaffirmed their commitment to collaboration in governance, cultural preservation and sustainable development during the Naliwabelelwa Traditional Ceremony held at Naliele Royal Palace in Kaoma District.
Officiating the ceremony as Guest of Honour, Western Province Minister Hon. Kapelwa Mbangweta, MP, emphasized the importance of traditional leadership as a foundational pillar in Zambia’s pursuit of inclusive national development.
“The New Dawn Government recognizes that development must be anchored in local leadership structures and cultural values,” said Hon. Mbangweta. “Our investment in the construction of traditional palaces is not symbolic it is a practical recognition of the vital role our chiefs play in social cohesion, agricultural leadership and climate resilience.”
The Minister highlighted the government’s strategic efforts to empower traditional authorities, including the provision of farming inputs for the 2024/2025 agricultural season, enabling chiefs to champion climate smart agriculture within their communities. He further noted progress in regional infrastructure, citing ongoing works on the Katunda Lukulu and Tateyoyo Katunda roads, and the soon to commence Kasempa Kaoma road as part of efforts to connect rural communities to economic opportunities.
A significant moment in the ceremony came with the official recognition of His Royal Highness Senior Chief Mbanga Lubosi Yeta as the traditional ruler presiding over Kaoma, Nkeyema and Luampa Districts.
