Lufwanyama, Copperbelt Province, Zambia.
The Government has officially commissioned the newly constructed Mukumbo Bridge in Lufwanyama District, a vital infrastructure project completed by the Zambia Air Force (ZAF) in less than six months.
Delivered under ZAF’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, the bridge is more than a feat of engineering it represents a strategic investment in rural connectivity and economic resilience. By linking three major communities within the district, the Mukumbo Bridge is expected to unlock significant socio-economic benefits for residents.
“This bridge will not only improve mobility but also stimulate agricultural trade and enhance access to critical services such as health and education,” said a government representative at the commissioning ceremony.
The area known for its livestock and maize production, has long struggled with transportation barriers, especially during the rainy season. With the new bridge in place, local farmers and traders can now transport goods more efficiently, reducing costs and improving income.
ZAF’s swift execution of the project underscores the growing role of the defense sector in supporting national development priorities. The initiative highlights how inter-agency collaboration can deliver practical, life changing solutions for underserved communities.
The Mukumbo Bridge stands as a testament to what targeted infrastructure development can achieve — bridging not just rivers, but economic gaps and social divides.
