The Ministry of Community Development and Social Services has reinforced its commitment to improving social service delivery by handing over new Land Cruiser vehicles to the Department of Social Welfare in Western Province under the Social Cash Transfer (SCT) Programme.

As part of Phase One, the vehicles have been allocated to Mitete, Lukulu, Mulobezi, and Sikongo, with a focus on improving access to critical services such as Social Cash Transfers and Food Security Packs, particularly in hard-to-reach areas.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Western Province Permanent Secretary, Simomo Akapelwa, emphasized that Western Province’s vast landmass and challenging road infrastructure make service delivery difficult. However, the introduction of these vehicles will significantly enhance mobility and outreach.

“Many of our routes remain ungazetted, posing a major challenge to accessing vulnerable communities. These vehicles will be instrumental in ensuring that government support reaches those who need it most,” he stated.

Western Province Senior Social Welfare Officer, Dorothy Sibiho, expressed appreciation for the new additions, highlighting their impact on strengthening service delivery.

“These vehicles will go a long way in ensuring timely and efficient distribution of social support programs. We are committed to using them strictly for their intended purpose,” she assured.

Other districts in the province are expected to receive vehicles in subsequent phases, further bolstering the New Dawn Government’s efforts to enhance social welfare programs across Western Province.
