‎Mangango, Western Province, Zambia.

‎President Hakainde Hichilema’s pledge to improve road infrastructure in Western Province is taking shape, as the Government has launched the upgrade of the 80-kilometer Katunda–Lukulu–Watopa–Mumbezhi Road.

‎The ZMW 1.43 billion project, executed by AVIC International and supervised by the Road Development Agency (RDA) is expected to transform one of Zambia’s least accessible regions by improving connectivity, boosting trade and opening new economic opportunities in agriculture, fisheries, livestock and mining.

‎Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony in Mangango, Infrastructure Minister Eng. Charles Milupi described the development as a “game-changer” that will reduce transport costs, cut travel times and help farmers access markets more efficiently.

‎“This project is not just about a road, it is about transforming lives, connecting communities and unlocking economic potential,” Milupi said.

‎The Minister stressed that the project delivers on President Hichilema’s campaign promise and aligns with the New Dawn Government’s vision to double Zambia’s GDP within five years and achieve economic independence by 2031.

‎Milupi also pointed to other completed and ongoing projects in Western Province, including the Kafue Hook Bridge rehabilitation, construction of Luanginga and Silanda bridges and the upgrading of Muoyo and Namushakende–Nalikwanda roads, as further proof of the New Dawn Government’s commitment to equitable development and regional connectivity.
