The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested Sophia Jani, the Katombola Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Committee Chairperson, over allegations of corruption involving K190,000.00.
Ms. Jani, aged 46, of Simango Village, Kazungula, has been charged with one count of Failure to Disclose Interest, in violation of Section 5 (5) Subparagraph (1)(2) and (3) of The Constituency Development Fund Act No. 11 of 2018.
According to the ACC, on 19th June 2023, in Kazungula District, Southern Province, Ms. Jani failed to declare her interest while participating in a CDF Committee meeting.
She subsequently influenced the decision to award an empowerment loan worth K190,000.00 to her own company, Mwabonwa Culture Experience, in a matter involving Kazungula Town Council, a public body.
In a separate case, the ACC has arrested a Livingstone resident, Nyambe Sakubita, aged 45, of Plot Number 2498, Kafue Road, Nottie Broad, for corruption-related offenses involving forgery and uttering false documents.
Mr. Sakubita has been charged with one count of Forgery and one count of Uttering a False Document, contrary to the Penal Code Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
The charges stem from allegations that between 1st January 2022 and 31st October 2022, in Livingstone, Southern Province, Mr. Sakubita altered an official document from the Patents and Companies Registration Agency (PACRA) with intent to deceive. He later presented the falsified document as genuine in an attempt to mislead authorities.
Both Ms. Jani and Mr. Sakubita have been granted bond and are expected to appear before the Livingstone Subordinate Court soon.
These arrests highlight the ACC’s continued efforts to combat corruption and uphold integrity in public institutions.
