With just days to go before the iconic Kuomboka Ceremony, preparations are in high gear to ensure a seamless and memorable event. Scheduled for Saturday, April 5, 2025, this year’s ceremony is poised to celebrate Zambia’s rich cultural heritage while driving significant economic and tourism benefits for Western Province.

Addressing the media in a joint press briefing, Western Province Minister Hon. Kapelwa Mbangweta (MP) reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the traditional event, announcing that Republican President Mr. Hakainde Hichilema will grace the occasion with his presence.

“The Kuomboka Ceremony is more than a cultural tradition; it is a catalyst for economic growth, tourism promotion, and national unity. We urge all Zambians to participate and witness this unique spectacle that showcases the vibrancy of our traditions,” said Hon. Mbangweta.

The Minister also called on the business community to seize the opportunity by investing in the hospitality sector to cater to the expected influx of visitors.

To ensure a peaceful and secure environment, Western Province Commissioner of Police, Mr. David Chileshe, assured the public of heightened security measures, including increased patrols by the Zambia Police Service in collaboration with other security agencies.

“We have put in place extensive security measures to guarantee the safety of all attendees. Both day and night patrols are being intensified to prevent any incidents that may compromise public safety,” Mr. Chileshe emphasized.

In a bid to safeguard public health, Acting Provincial Health Director, Dr. Loveday Mwila, outlined comprehensive healthcare measures aimed at disease surveillance, health education, and prevention.

“Our teams are actively engaged in health awareness campaigns, and we are reinforcing prevention measures across key locations. Notably, over 300,000 condoms have already been distributed in high-traffic areas, with a total target of 2 million. Additionally, we are bolstering healthcare services in surrounding districts, including Limulunga, Nalolo, Senanga, and Kalabo,” stated Dr. Mwila.

With thousands expected to converge in Mongu for the event, Western Province Chamber of Commerce and Industry President, Ms. Imanga Kayama, has urged businesses to maintain ethical pricing practices.

“This is a golden opportunity for businesses to thrive, but it should not be at the expense of visitors. We encourage fair pricing as we collectively work towards strengthening Western Province’s economic appeal,” she advised.

As the final preparations take shape, excitement is building for this year’s Kuomboka Ceremony, held under the theme: “Kuomboka – More Than Just a Migration.” The event is set to reinforce cultural identity, foster economic growth, and position Western Province as a prime tourism destination.
