Chawama came alive on Saturday with an outpouring of compassion, as residents and leaders joined hands to bring dignity, hope and independence to persons with disabilities. At the heart of this spirit-filled gathering was Kids Charity Zambia (KCZ), whose tireless commitment to inclusion shone brightly during the handover of mobility aids.
From three brand-new wheelchairs to sturdy crutches and a walking frame, each gift was more than a tool, it was a gateway to freedom. For beneficiaries, these items meant renewed confidence and the ability to move through life with less dependence.
The event was graced by UPND Chawama aspiring Member of Parliament, Morgan Muunda, whose presence underscored the power of community leadership rooted in service. Muunda not only praised KCZ’s dedication but also reinforced it with tangible support, donating 10 bags of mealie meal, K10,000 for ongoing initiatives and small cash tokens to community caregivers, volunteers and a dedicated police officer in recognition of their service.
“A wheelchair to a child is not a small thing,” he reflected. “From the little we have, we can change lives.”
The day’s warmth went far beyond material gifts. It was a celebration of shared humanity, where caregivers, parents and volunteers stood together in gratitude. KCZ’s leaders, many working without pay, were honored for creating a safe, empowering environment for those living with disabilities.
As laughter, handshakes and moments of quiet joy filled the air, Chawama was reminded that true wealth lies not in possessions, but in the willingness to give from the heart.
