Lusaka, Zambia.
Chawama aspiring Member of Parliament, Morgan Muunda, has delivered a compelling account of how the New Dawn administration’s project-based development model, anchored by President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership, is delivering measurable progress across multiple sectors of Zambia’s economy and society.
Speaking during a detailed media briefing, Muunda unpacked milestone after milestone, offering a sector-by-sector breakdown of the government’s achievements and their direct impact on communities.
Healthcare Expansion on an Unprecedented Scale
Muunda began by highlighting the recruitment of over 21,000 health professionals, including 6,000+ medical officers, 12,000 nurses and midwives, 3,000 environmental health specialists, and 300 dentists. He said this historic intake has not only bridged staffing shortages in health facilities but also created sustainable employment for skilled Zambians.
He pointed to the government’s rapid-response approach to cholera and other public health threats, which deployed thousands of volunteers, many of whom have now been absorbed into permanent roles, with a strong focus on youth and women inclusion.
Mining Sector Revival and Job Protection
Turning to the mining industry, Muunda underscored the resurrection of key assets such as Shaft 28 and Kalengwa Mine, alongside the revitalization of Mopani and Konkola operations. These interventions, he said, have secured thousands of jobs, stimulated local economies and boosted Zambia’s mineral revenue streams.
He further noted the expansion of cooperative gold mining, enabling communities to participate directly in wealth creation through structured, transparent systems.
Muunda praised the efficient use of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), which he said is financing roads, markets, health posts, and other grassroots projects that directly enhance service delivery and quality of life.
Agriculture and Water Security Projects
In agriculture, he cited the Kafulafuta Dam as a flagship project improving irrigation capacity and water supply reliability. He revealed that more dams are planned nationwide to boost farming resilience. The distribution of high-quality seeds, fertilizers and mechanized equipment has further empowered farmers and reinforced national food security.
Education and Transport Infrastructure
The aspiring MP highlighted school construction, teacher recruitment, and the ongoing rehabilitation of roads, bridges and public facilities, describing them as foundational to Zambia’s connectivity, trade and human capital growth.
Social Empowerment and Security
Muunda commended social programs targeting youth, women and orphans, integrating them into development initiatives aimed at skills training, job creation and financial inclusion.
On governance, he pointed to enhanced institutional collaboration, greater transparency and security measures aimed at curbing violence, drug abuse, and corruption.
“The progress we are witnessing is not abstract, it is project by project, community by community,” Muunda said. “The New Dawn government has proven that inclusive, transparent and results-driven leadership can transform a nation’s destiny.”
As Zambia advances along this ambitious development path, Muunda stressed that unity, resilience and sustained leadership commitment will be key to unlocking even greater national potential.
