Zambia’s National Heart Hospital is at the forefront of a healthcare transformation, delivering life-saving cardiac care while strengthening the nation’s medical infrastructure.

Through highly subsidized services, the hospital ensures that all Zambians—regardless of financial status—receive critical heart treatments, including open-heart surgery. By performing these complex procedures locally, the hospital significantly reduces the financial burden on the government, eliminating the need for costly referrals abroad.

In the past year alone, the hospital successfully conducted 114 life-changing surgeries, alleviating pressure on the national healthcare system and enhancing patient outcomes. However, its mission extends far beyond direct patient care. The National Heart Hospital is actively shaping the future of Zambia’s cardiac care landscape by investing in local expertise and medical innovation. Through strategic collaborations with international organizations, the hospital is training a new generation of cardiac professionals, including cardiologists, perfusionists, and specialized nurses, ensuring sustainable and high-quality care for years to come.

A testament to its commitment to pediatric cardiac health, the hospital recently partnered with Mission Bambini for the third Pediatric Surgical Camp of 2025, aptly named “Hope for the Blue Babies.” From March 24–28, a dedicated team of local and international specialists conducted life-saving procedures, offering children a second chance at life. The hospital expressed deep gratitude to Mission Bambini and all those whose unwavering support made the initiative a success, underscoring the power of collaboration in advancing healthcare.

As a pillar of Zambia’s healthcare system, the National Heart Hospital is not only saving lives but also driving systemic change. Its efforts in capacity-building, outreach, and innovation are laying the foundation for a self-sufficient, world-class cardiac care network, reinforcing the New Dawn Government’s commitment to equitable and excellent healthcare for all Zambians.
