After nearly six decades of relying on a single room health facility built in 1968, the people of Basanga in Itezhi Tezhi District have witnessed a historic transformation in their access to healthcare. On Monday, Member of Parliament Hon. Mutinta Twaambo joined Chief Musungwa and his traditional leadership in commissioning a newly constructed modern health facility funded through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) at a cost of K1.6 million.
The facility is fully connected to the national electricity grid and equipped with a reliable water supply and has been designed to meet the needs of over 8,000 residents in the area. It marks a significant departure from the rudimentary health services of the past, introducing purpose built consultation rooms, maternity services, outpatient care, and emergency support systems.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Hon.Twaambo Mutinta emphasized that the new health post underscores the New Dawn government’s commitment to equitable healthcare access and community-led development through CDF. The modern infrastructure also enhances patient privacy and clinical efficiency, setting a new standard for rural health delivery.
Traditional leaders and community members hailed the facility as a symbol of progress and a long awaited response to their health challenges.
