Lusaka, Zambia.
Mazabuka Member of Parliament and UPND Chairperson for Elections and Strategic Campaigns, Hon. Garry Nkombo, has firmly rejected social media speculation alleging that he intends to challenge President Hakainde Hichilema for the presidency.
Addressing the media in Lusaka shortly after filing a formal complaint with the Zambia Police Headquarters, Mr. Nkombo described the online claims as baseless and malicious attempts to sow discord within the ruling party.
“I wish to unequivocally state that I have no ambition now or in the future to contest the presidency. I remain a loyal and committed member of the UPND and fully support President Hichilema’s leadership,” Nkombo said.
He emphasized that his political allegiance is unwavering, adding that those peddling the falsehoods are detractors seeking to damage his personal reputation and disrupt the unity within the party.
“These fabrications are not just an attack on me, but an attack on the stability and cohesion of the UPND. I remain a solid, unshaken member of this party and a staunch supporter of President Hichilema,” he said.
Mr. Nkombo, who also sits on the UPND National Management Committee, expressed confidence that law enforcement agencies will investigate the cyber related allegations and bring those responsible to justice.
“I have every faith that the police will take this matter seriously and pursue the perpetrators of this cybercrime,” he added.
He further described President Hichilema as not only his leader, but also an elder brother and close confidant, stating that there is no basis for the claims circulating online.
Recent days have seen a surge in unverified social media reports alleging that Mr. Nkombo is positioning himself for a presidential bid in the 2026 general elections. However, the lawmaker’s public denial seeks to put an end to such speculation and reinforce party unity ahead of the next electoral cycle.
