The Department of Immigration has intensified its efforts to curb illegal immigration, deporting over 170 illegal immigrants and apprehending 22 others in coordinated operations conducted across the country.
On Friday, 18th July 2025, immigration authorities in Lusaka removed 132 illegal immigrants, the majority of whom had been apprehended during a joint operation in various parts of the capital on 4th July. The deported individuals included 115 Burundians, 10 Tanzanians, six Rwandese and one Congolese national, all found to have violated immigration laws.
In a parallel operation on the same day, the Solwezi Regional Immigration Office deported 43 Tanzanian nationals linked to illegal gold mining activities in Mufumbwe District. Authorities confirmed that the individuals had contravened their immigration conditions by engaging in unlawful mining operations.
Meanwhile, early Friday morning, immigration officers in Kasumbalesa apprehended 22 Congolese nationals near the main border gate on suspicion of illegal entry into Zambia. The suspects are currently detained at Kasumbalesa Police Station for screening and potential prosecution.
The Department of Immigration has reiterated its commitment to enforcing immigration laws to safeguard national security and maintain orderly migration. It has further encouraged members of the public to report suspected cases of illegal immigration to the nearest immigration offices to support efforts in combating unlawful entry and residence in the country.
