Lusaka, Zambia.

The Zambia Police Service has issued a public appeal for assistance in identifying and locating the family of the late Sipiwé Nyirenda, a woman believed to have been murdered under suspicious circumstances shortly after moving in with her new partner in Lusaka.

According to a police statement, the body of Ms. Nyirenda was brought in dead (BID) to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) at approximately 23:30 hours on June 10, 2025. She was transported to the hospital by her boyfriend, Mr. Maybin Muliye, who is now in police custody as a key suspect in the ongoing investigation.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that Ms. Nyirenda was previously married and had two children in Kafue. Following her divorce, she relocated to the John Leigh area in Lusaka, where she lived with an unidentified friend. It was during this period that she began cohabiting with Mr. Muliye. Disturbingly, her death occurred just six days after they began living together.

The Zambia Police Service is urgently appealing to any members of the public who may have known Sipiwé Nyirenda or who may have information about her family or next of kin to come forward and report to Kabwata Police Station.

Her body remains at the UTH mortuary, and postmortem and burial arrangements are on hold pending identification and involvement of her family.

“We are calling on members of the community to help us ensure that the deceased is accorded the dignity she deserves,” said the Police. “Your cooperation in locating her family is not only necessary for the investigation but also vital in giving her a respectful burial.”

Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact Kabwata Police Station without delay.
