PRESIDENT HICHILEMA ARRIVES IN TANZANIA FOR HIGH-LEVEL REGIONAL SUMMIT ON EASTERN DRC CONFLICT

The Republican President of Zambia Mr Hakainde Hichilema arrived in Dar es Salaam this morning from Tokyo, Japan, to participate in the Joint Heads of State Summit between the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC). The high-level gathering aims to address the ongoing security crisis in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The Summit is co-chaired by His Excellency Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, President of Zimbabwe and Chair of SADC, and His Excellency Dr. William Ruto, President of Kenya and Chair of the EAC. Leaders from across the region are convening to strengthen collaborative efforts in resolving the long-standing instability in the eastern DRC.
This meeting follows recent Extraordinary Summits of both SADC and EAC, held on January 31 and January 29, 2025, respectively, further underscoring the unwavering commitment of African leaders to achieving sustainable peace and security in the region.
President Hichilema continues to advocate for Zambia’s role in fostering regional stability and will engage with fellow leaders to develop coordinated strategies aimed at restoring peace in the eastern DRC.
The President is expected to return to Zambia upon the conclusion of the Summit
