President Hakainde Hichilema has reaffirmed the Government’s strong partnership with the Churches Health Association of Zambia (CHAZ), describing it as a trusted and indispensable ally in the nation’s healthcare system.
Speaking during the 47th CHAZ General Council held in the Waterfalls area of Chongwe District this afternoon, the Head of State commended CHAZ for its unwavering commitment to providing healthcare services, particularly in remote and under-served communities across Zambia.
President Hichilema said the Church’s continued sacrifice and service, guided by Christian values, have been instrumental in complementing Government efforts to ensure equitable access to health services.
He reiterated Government’s commitment to the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between CHAZ and the Ministry of Health, noting that plans are underway to expand the agreement to include more areas that will enhance the quality and reach of healthcare delivery.
The President also emphasized the importance of domestic resource mobilisation within the health sector, calling for more investment in infrastructure and medical supplies. He warned that theft of medicines and medical equipment will not be tolerated, adding that laws are being strengthened to curb such vices.
Mr. Hichilema further directed the Ministry of Health to ensure the timely delivery of medicines to all health facilities across the country, stressing that access to essential drugs is key to saving lives.
He concluded by reminding the nation that a healthy population is the backbone of economic growth and urged all stakeholders to work together in strengthening the health system.
