Chongwe, Lusaka Province, Zambia.
In a bold declaration of Zambia’s economic ambitions, President Hakainde Hichilema today officially inaugurated the 3rd edition of the Land-Linked Zambia 2025 conference, setting the tone for transformative growth and regional integration.
Addressing delegates at Chongwe’s prestigious CIELA Resort, President Hichilema laid out his vision to more than double Zambia’s Gross Domestic Product, positioning the country as a regional powerhouse. He called on key stakeholders in the transport and logistics sectors to rally behind efforts aimed at boosting regional trade corridors, which he described as critical arteries for economic prosperity.
Highlighting the strategic importance of cross-border collaboration, President Hichilema advocated for increased joint investments, particularly in border infrastructure, to streamline trade flows and strengthen regional ties. He also challenged the financial sector to play a more proactive role by lowering interest rates, thereby widening access to capital for businesses eager to invest and expand.
Echoing the President’s sentiments, Minister of Transport and Logistics, Hon. Eng. Esq. Museba Frank Tayali, underscored Zambia’s impressive strides in enhancing its transport infrastructure. He noted that recent international engagements have opened new opportunities for the sector, further cementing Zambia’s role as a pivotal logistics hub in the region.
A significant highlight of the conference was the signing of the Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) between Zambia and Angola — a landmark pact that will enhance air connectivity, facilitate greater movement of people and goods, and deepen economic cooperation between the two nations.
Africast Managing Director, Chimwemwe Nyirenda, praised the exponential growth of the annual event, which has expanded its international participation from a single country to an impressive eighteen. He emphasized that the platform, now branded as Africa’s Transport and Logistics Indaba, continues to provide invaluable networking opportunities, fostering partnerships that drive the seamless flow of goods and services across the continent.
As the conference unfolds over the next two days, it promises to be a catalyst for new alliances, innovative solutions, and actionable strategies that will shape the future of transport and logistics in Zambia and beyond.
