Lusaka, Zambia.
As the 2026 general elections draw near, Lusaka residents are increasingly calling for transformative leadership that can break away from stagnation and disunity within the Lusaka City Council.
Among the frontrunners answering this call is Rev. Dr. William Njombo, a seasoned political figure and dedicated member of the United Party for National Development (UPND), who has pledged to usher in an era of cohesive and visionary governance.
With over a decade of experience in the political arena, Rev. Dr. Njombo brings not only deep-rooted loyalty to the UPND but also a clear, strategic vision for Lusaka’s future. Speaking to the UPND Mandevu Constituency Executive Committee, he reflected on his political journey and reaffirmed his commitment to the party’s ideals, describing the UPND as a family that thrives on shared purpose and unity — values he promises to instill at the Council level.
His renewed mayoral bid, first initiated in 2021, is driven by a desire to tackle what he views as a critical leadership vacuum at the Council. While acknowledging the dedication of many UPND Councillors, Rev. Dr. Njombo expressed concern over the lack of cohesion and strategic direction, factors he believes have stifled progress and hampered effective service delivery.
“Leadership must not only be about administration; it must be about connection, clarity, and collective vision,” he emphasized. “Lusaka deserves a Council that listens, collaborates, and delivers.”
Rev. Dr. Njombo’s leadership approach centers on community engagement, transparency, and the fostering of unity among Councillors and stakeholders. He envisions a Council that works in sync with the people it serves, ensuring that policies and initiatives reflect the real needs of Lusaka’s communities.
As election momentum builds, Rev. Dr. Njombo positions himself not merely as a candidate, but as a catalyst for meaningful change — one who is prepared to reframe the narrative of Lusaka’s governance with integrity and inclusivity at its core.
