The Government of the Republic of Zambia, through the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Arts, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all those who gathered to honor the life of an extraordinary individual, Wesley Chibambo, affectionately known as King Dandy Crazy.
Speaking at the funeral, Minister Elvis Nkandu highlighted Dandy Crazy’s profound influence, describing him as “not only a beloved musician who brought joy to countless hearts with his vibrant spirit, but also a father, brother and mentor to many Zambians.”
The passing of King Dandy Crazy has left a significant void in the lives of many, deeply affecting the Zambian creative community.
Minister Nkandu described him as a guiding light in the world of music and creative arts, shaping and inspiring the next generation of artists. “His legacy is evident in the way he touched our lives, encouraging us to embrace our creativity and pursue our passions fearlessly,” he stated.
As the nation remembers King Dandy Crazy, it is essential to celebrate not just his remarkable contributions to music but also the love, wisdom and community spirit he shared. His spirit will continue to resonate in the rhythms of his music and the lives of those he inspired.
Mr Nkandu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing Zambia’s arts sector. Through the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Arts, the government recently launched the National Arts Policy to position the arts as a vital economic sector.
Artists across the nation are encouraged to participate in initiatives aimed at enhancing their welfare, such as the extension of the social security system to include artists.
Mr Nkandu urged artists to register with Bestlife Insurance or NAPSA to benefit from the country’s social security system. This, he emphasized, will not only improve their livelihoods but also enhance their contributions to national development.
Mr Nkandu expressed deep appreciation to King Dandy Crazy’s family for supporting his artistic journey, noting that many families do not embrace careers in the arts.
He thanked them for allowing the government and the nation to mourn alongside them during this difficult time.
In his closing remarks, Minister Nkandu called on all artists and Zambians to unite during this period of mourning. He urged them to exercise the spirit of Ubuntu—loving and supporting one another in brotherhood. “Let us honor King Dandy Crazy’s memory by fostering unity and upholding the spirit of ‘One Zambia, One Nation,'” he said.
The legacy of King Dandy Crazy will live on in the hearts of Zambians, inspiring creativity, love and community for generations to come.
