The dreams of two young footballers from Lusaka Central are about to take flight as they prepare to travel tomorrow for trials in Georgia. This historic moment comes after their outstanding performance in the Mulambo Haimbe Soccer Scouting Tournament, a groundbreaking initiative launched by Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, MP for Lusaka Central, to uncover and nurture raw football talent within the constituency.
Today, in Bauleni Township, Hon. Haimbe personally bid farewell to the two rising stars, wishing them success as they embark on this life-changing journey. Out of more than 400 participants, these two exceptional players were selected after impressing international scout Irakli Khvedeliani from FC Gagra, Georgia, who was part of the talent identification process.
Speaking at the send-off ceremony, Hon. Haimbe reaffirmed his commitment to empowering youth through sports, stating:
“This tournament was about giving young players the opportunity to showcase their talent on a bigger stage. Seeing these two footballers earn a chance to prove themselves internationally is proof that Lusaka Central is home to incredible potential. We will continue supporting initiatives that uplift our youth and position Zambia as a top footballing nation in Africa.”
The Mulambo Haimbe Soccer Scouting Tournament, which took place at Queen’s Mead Stadium, brought together young players from various communities, offering them exposure to professional scouting and career-changing opportunities. Each participating team received K1,000 and a soccer ball, a gesture that underscored Hon. Haimbe’s commitment to grassroots sports development.
With their bags packed and dreams set on making an impact, the two selected footballers will now represent Lusaka Central on the international stage. Their journey is not just a personal achievement but a beacon of hope for many aspiring footballers across Zambia.
