Lusaka, Zambia.
In a significant demonstration of the United Party for National Development (UPND)’s ongoing commitment to fostering strong partnerships with faith-based organisations, Hon. Elvis C. Nkandu, MP and Deputy Spokesperson of the UPND, today presided over a landmark ceremony where a financial contribution was handed over to the Naluyanda Sub Congregation and Tubalanga Congregation under the Lusaka West Consistory.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Nkandu described the occasion as both an honour and a testament to the enduring collaboration between government, political leadership, and the faith community in advancing national development. The K30,000.00 cheque, presented to support the congregations’ purchase of land, is set to enable the establishment of a permanent home for their spiritual and community activities.
“This is more than just a financial gesture,” Hon. Nkandu emphasised. “It is a deliberate investment in the spiritual and social infrastructure of our nation. By supporting the acquisition of this land, we are laying the groundwork for a future where the church can continue to thrive as a beacon of hope, peace, and community service.”
Hon. Nkandu underscored the pivotal role religious institutions play in complementing government efforts in key sectors such as education, healthcare, social welfare, and the promotion of peace. He reiterated the UPND administration’s recognition of churches as vital partners in strengthening the moral fabric of society and fostering unity.
“Under the visionary leadership of His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema, our government deeply values the role of the church as an essential pillar of our nation’s development agenda,” he noted. “We are steadfast in our belief that inclusive progress is built on a foundation of shared values — integrity, service, and compassion.”
The Deputy Spokesperson commended the leadership of Naluyanda and Tubalanga congregations for their resilience and unwavering dedication to nurturing their communities. He praised their vision and perseverance in securing a future that ensures both spiritual growth and community empowerment.
“Your unwavering commitment is inspiring,” Hon. Nkandu told the congregants. “When purpose is fuelled by faith, remarkable milestones are not only possible, they are inevitable. May this land you will soon call your own become a sanctuary of peace, a vibrant centre of worship, and a hub for uplifting generations to come.”
The ceremony, attended by the Permanent Secretary for Arts, church leaders, invited guests, and members of the media, highlighted the growing synergy between UPND Government and faith-based organisations. It also reinforced the UPND’s broader agenda of nation-building through inclusive partnerships and grassroots empowerment.
As the congregations embark on this new chapter, today’s contribution stands as a powerful symbol of solidarity and shared aspiration — a future where collaboration across sectors continues to drive Zambia towards prosperity and unity.
