Lusaka, Zambia.
In a show of solidarity and respect, the United Party for National Development (UPND) Media Directorate today visited Belvedere Lodge, the official venue of national mourning, to pay tribute to Zambia’s late sixth Republican President, Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu.
The delegation, led by UPND Media Director Mr. Mark Simuuwe, joined mourners in signing the official book of condolences and expressed profound sympathy to the bereaved family and the nation at large.
Addressing the press shortly after the signing, Mr. Simuuwe emphasized the importance of national unity during periods of collective grief. “At moments like this, we transcend political affiliations. Death humbles us all and our duty now is to honour the legacy of the late President with dignity and respect,” he said.
Mr. Simuuwe underscored the values of peace and constitutionalism, commending the late President Lungu for presiding over a peaceful democratic transition. “He left behind a legacy of handing over power with honour, something future generations must emulate,” he stated.
Quoting from his tribute, Mr. Simuuwe wrote: “We celebrate the life of the late President Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu and his contribution to Zambia’s democratic journey. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
Joining the delegation was UPND Presidential Aide for Special Duties, Mr. Mubita Nawa, who also paid his respects and signed the condolence book. The presence of key UPND figures reflects the administration’s commitment to preserving national unity and mutual respect across political lines.
As tributes pour in from across the country and the international community, the atmosphere at Belvedere Lodge remains reflective and solemn, with leaders from various sectors continuing to honour Dr. Lungu’s service to the Republic.
