Lusaka, Zambia.
Zambia and the Czech Republic have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with a renewed focus on strategic cooperation in key sectors that align with Zambia’s development priorities.
The high-level engagement took place today as Ms. Etambuyu Anamela-Gundersen, Permanent Secretary for International Relations and Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, hosted Ms. Karolina Sequevsova, Director-General for Non-European Countries, Economic and Development Cooperation from the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
At the center of the dialogue was a shared vision to deepen collaboration in mineral beneficiation, agriculture, sustainable development, and trade promotion — all seen as critical pillars for Zambia’s economic growth. Ms. Gundersen emphasized the importance of technical cooperation in Zambia’s mining sector, particularly in enhancing exploration capacity and value addition, which would contribute significantly to Zambia’s long-term industrialization goals.
A key highlight of the discussions was Zambia’s continued partnership with the Czech Republic on the Sustainable Landscape through Integrated Management (SLIM) project, spearheaded by the Czech Development Agency.
This flagship initiative, running from October 2023 to 2027, focuses on integrated land use, resource management, and environmental conservation to ensure sustainable livelihoods for Zambian communities. Ms. Gundersen reaffirmed Zambia’s dedication to supporting the project’s success as part of the country’s broader sustainability agenda.
In addition to environmental and technical cooperation, both parties expressed a desire to strengthen economic ties. Ms. Gundersen called for expanded business linkages and the promotion of bilateral trade, underscoring Zambia’s openness to Czech investment and expertise.
Speaking during the meeting, Ms. Karolina Sequevsova praised the strong and cordial relations between the two nations and assured Zambia of the Czech Republic’s continued support, particularly in the agriculture and energy sectors, which remain central to Zambia’s economic diversification efforts.
As Zambia positions itself as a hub for sustainable development and regional trade, the New Dawn Government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation continues to prioritize proactive diplomatic engagement that fosters international partnerships, unlocking new avenues for growth and prosperity.
