Lusaka, Zambia.
The Zambia Army has raised concerns over the continued circulation of fraudulent recruitment advertisements on social media, warning the public against falling victim to such scams.
In a statement, the Army cautioned citizens to remain vigilant, as unscrupulous individuals are exploiting the aspirations of job seekers by impersonating military officials and demanding payment for fake recruitment opportunities.
A recent case involved a 22-year-old victim, Alex Sinkonde of Mbala, who was defrauded of over K10,000 by a scammer operating under the alias Harrison Kapisha. The fraudster also used a display picture (DP) of the Zambia Army Commander, Lt Gen Geoffrey Choongo Zyeele, to add credibility to the scheme.
The Army has strongly condemned these criminal acts and assured the public that, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, efforts are underway to track down and bring the perpetrators to justice.
To prevent further losses, the Army reiterated that it does not require any form of payment from prospective recruits. The public is advised to ignore individuals or groups claiming to facilitate Army recruitment in exchange for money.
For authentic information on recruitment, the Zambia Army exclusively publishes official advertisements through traditional print media (newspapers), electronic media (television and radio), and its verified Facebook page, “The Zambia Army.” Any recruitment messages received via social media, SMS, or unsolicited phone calls should be regarded as scams.
The Zambia Army remains committed to conducting a fair and transparent recruitment process and urges the public to remain cautious to avoid falling prey to fraudulent schemes.
