The Zambia Correctional Service (ZCS) continues to strengthen strategic partnerships to enhance the production and distribution of its affordable Kalonga Mealie-Meal brand.
In its latest move, Mkushi Millers from Mkushi District, Central Province, has joined the growing list of milling partners collaborating with ZCS to increase nationwide supply.
This addition brings the total number of partnered millers to seven (7), which include Dariyaye Milling (Lusaka), Mpika Milling (Mpika), Allied Milling, Pembe Milling (Lusaka), Simba Milling (Katuba), Ubuntu Milling (Lusaka), and now Mkushi Millers.
Collectively, these partnerships have scaled up mealie-meal production capacity to 1,625 metric tonnes per day, translating to 65,000 bags of 25kg mealie-meal daily.
To facilitate nationwide distribution, over 100 cooperatives and individual agents have been engaged to ensure that the affordable Kalonga Mealie-Meal reaches communities across Zambia.
Despite these efforts to keep prices low, ZCS has noted with concern that some agents are disregarding the government’s directive on pricing. The stipulated retail price remains at K230 for a 25kg bag of breakfast mealie-meal and K190 for roller meal.
ZCS strongly warns cooperatives and distributors against selling the Kalonga Mealie-Meal brand above the approved price. Any violations will result in strict action, including the confiscation and disposal of overpriced consignments as directed by the courts.
The Zambia Correctional Service remains committed to ensuring affordable and accessible mealie-meal for all Zambians, and it urges all stakeholders to comply with the pricing regulations to support this national initiative.
This initiative is a cornerstone of President Hakainde Hichilema’s New Dawn Government, aimed at ensuring that every Zambian has access to affordable and readily available mealie-meal.
By fostering strategic partnerships and enhancing production capacity, the government seeks to stabilize prices, improve food security and ease the cost of living for citizens across the country.
This commitment reflects the New Dawn administration’s broader agenda of promoting economic inclusivity, reducing household financial burdens and strengthening Zambia’s agricultural and milling sectors to achieve long-term sustainability.
