Lusaka, Zambia.
The Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development (MMMD) successfully launched the Zambia Integrated Mining Information System (ZIMIS) on 27th February 2025, marking a major milestone in the country’s efforts to enhance transparency, efficiency, and governance in the mining sector.
The newly introduced ZIMIS platform replaced the Trimble Landfolio Cadastre System, which was officially decommissioned on 26th February 2025 at 14:00 hours. Fully integrated with the Government Service Bus (GSB), ZIMIS now serves as the official platform for all mining-related transactions, ensuring seamless operations, faster processing times, and improved regulatory oversight.
The implementation of ZIMIS marked a significant step in modernizing mining license management by digitizing applications, licensing, and approvals. The system effectively eliminated bureaucratic delays, offering a more transparent, predictable, and efficient regulatory process.
With ZIMIS now fully operational, the government reaffirmed that only transactions processed through the new system would be recognized, underscoring its commitment to technology-driven solutions for enhanced compliance and accountability.
The Ministry called on all industry stakeholders, mining companies, and investors to adapt to ZIMIS and take full advantage of its advanced capabilities. The launch of this state-of-the-art system aligned with Zambia’s New Dawn Government’s broader vision to position the mining sector as a model of digital efficiency and governance in the region.
By embracing modern technology, Zambia strengthened its mining governance framework, fostering greater investor confidence and ensuring sustainable growth in the sector.
