In a significant move to enhance leadership within higher education institutions, the Peace Leadership and Conflict Resolution Training for Student Leaders has been launched in Lusaka. Spearheaded by Vwaali Consultancy under the leadership of Mr. Ralph Likando Vwaali, the initiative aims to equip student leaders with essential skills in governance, diplomacy, and conflict resolution. The University of Zambia (UNZA) has partnered in hosting the program, reinforcing its role in fostering intellectual growth and leadership development.

The training program addresses key governance challenges faced by student leaders, including resource constraints, policy reforms, and student welfare concerns. The Ministry of Education has emphasized that while these challenges persist, the effectiveness of student leadership lies in strategic engagement, negotiation, and solution-driven approaches, rather than confrontation.

Speaking on the initiative, government representatives reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening institutional governance and ensuring that student concerns are addressed through structured, diplomatic engagement. The New Dawn Government has fully endorsed the program, recognizing its potential to bridge the gap between student leadership and university administration.

As part of a broader effort to sustain leadership development, the government has proposed the establishment of the Annual Student Leadership Summit. This platform will provide a continuous engagement forum for student leaders, university administrators, policymakers, and key stakeholders to discuss governance issues and develop long-term solutions.

The government has encouraged Vwaali Consultancy to collaborate with the Ministry of Education in designing a comprehensive framework for the summit. The initiative is expected to institutionalize structured dialogue and create a sustainable mechanism for leadership capacity building in Zambia’s higher education sector.

With growing recognition of the role of diplomacy and strategic negotiation in governance, this initiative marks a transformative shift in student leadership training—moving towards a more inclusive, solution-oriented approach to addressing institutional challenges.
