The Zambian government is reinforcing its commitment to modernizing infrastructure and empowering youth through strategic international collaborations. In a recent high-level meeting, the Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts engaged with a delegation of Chinese investors, led by Zambia Chinese Association Chairman Mr. Wu Ming, to explore opportunities for partnership in sports infrastructure, renewable energy, and skills development.
A central focus of the discussions was the modernization of Zambia’s major sports facilities, including National Heroes and Levy Mwanawasa Stadiums. The government is actively pursuing sustainable solutions by integrating solar energy into these facilities, ensuring not only uninterrupted power supply but also extending clean energy benefits to surrounding communities. This initiative will be expanded to all 25 Youth Resource Centers across the country, reinforcing the government’s commitment to green energy and sustainable development.
Beyond infrastructure, the engagement seeks to bolster youth entrepreneurship by providing access to affordable, high-quality equipment sourced from China. Minister of Youth, Sport, and Arts, Hon. Elvis C. Nkandu, emphasized the need to lower the financial barriers young entrepreneurs face in industries such as creative arts, manufacturing, and technology.
The initiative aims to enhance economic opportunities and equip young Zambians with essential tools to drive innovation and enterprise growth.
Recognizing the increasing relevance of industrialization, the Ministry is also prioritizing skills training in advanced fields such as electrical battery manufacturing. Plans are underway to introduce specialized training programs at Youth Resource Centers, equipping young people with the technical expertise required to support Zambia’s industrial growth and self-sustainability.
The creative sector also remains a key priority, with the government emphasizing the need for accessible, high-quality film and production equipment. By empowering local creatives, Zambia aims to strengthen its creative economy, fostering a competitive industry capable of thriving in both domestic and international markets.
As part of these broader efforts, the Ministry is preparing for a working visit to China next month to deepen bilateral cooperation and facilitate further investment in infrastructure, skills development, and youth empowerment. Through these strategic partnerships, Zambia continues to position itself as a hub for sustainable development and economic progress.
