Lusaka, Zambia.
In a solemn display of respect and shared grief, President Hakainde Hichilema of the Republic of Zambia visited the Embassy of the Holy See in Lusaka this morning to extend condolences on behalf of the nation following the passing of Pope Francis.
President Hichilema’s visit was a reflection not only of Zambia’s sorrow but also of the global mourning that has followed the death of a Pope whose life was marked by humility, compassion, and moral clarity.
In his tribute, President Hichilema emphasized that Pope Francis’ legacy transcended the confines of religious leadership. “His Holiness lived simply, and even in death, reminded us of the power of humility,” the President stated. “He stood unwaveringly with the marginalized—the refugee, the unborn, the childless, and the victims of war.”
At a time of rising global division and moral uncertainty, Pope Francis remained a beacon of hope and humanity, advocating for the voiceless and urging the world to reclaim compassion as a guiding principle.
President Hichilema described the late Pope as not only a spiritual shepherd but a statesman of profound empathy and courage. “Today, the world loses more than a religious figure—it loses a man who reminded us of our shared responsibility to care for the vulnerable among us.”
As messages of condolence continue to pour in from around the world, Zambia joins the international community in mourning a leader whose legacy of kindness, justice, and humility will endure across generations.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
