The Republic of Zambia has confirmed that President Hakainde Hichilema will undertake an official visit to Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, to participate in the highly anticipated Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit.
The summit, scheduled for January 28, 2025, will be held at the invitation of Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania.
The Mission 300 Summit represents a landmark initiative aimed at delivering electricity access to 300 million people across Africa by 2030.
This goal, launched in April 2024, is central to the continent’s broader ambitions to eliminate energy poverty, unlock economic opportunities, and foster sustainable growth.
The event is jointly organized by the Tanzanian Government, the World Bank Group, the African Development Bank and other global stakeholders, signaling a powerful coalition committed to advancing Africa’s energy future.
President Hichilema’s participation underscores Zambia’s proactive role in addressing critical regional challenges, particularly the urgent need for affordable, reliable and modern energy access.
The summit’s objectives resonate deeply with Zambia’s domestic energy agenda, including diversifying the country’s energy portfolio, enhancing infrastructure and attracting foreign investment to meet surging demand.
The summit aligns with Zambia’s broader development aspirations under the New Dawn Administration, which has prioritized sustainable energy as a cornerstone for national progress.
Additionally, the event reflects key global frameworks, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7 and the African Union Agenda 2063, both of which advocate for universal energy access as a driver of inclusive development.
The Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit will be preceded by a Ministerial Conference on January 27, 2025, where policymakers and industry leaders will deliberate on strategies to fast-track energy solutions across the continent.
On the sidelines of the summit, President Hichilema is expected to engage in high-level bilateral talks with fellow African leaders, focusing on shared regional priorities and fostering strategic partnerships.
President Hichilema’s presence at the summit reinforces Zambia’s commitment to regional cooperation and its pivotal role in shaping Africa’s sustainable energy landscape.
Following the conclusion of the summit, the President is scheduled to return to Lusaka.
