Zambia’s sporting community is celebrating unprecedented success, as Paul Mwanza’s historic victories on the international Strongman stage have become a beacon of national pride and global recognition for the country’s athletic talent.
In November 2024, Mwanza shattered records by becoming the first African athlete to claim the prestigious World Strongman Games Championship, a feat that placed Zambia firmly in the global spotlight. His momentum continued with a resounding gold-medal victory at the esteemed Arnold Schwarzenegger Classics, showcasing not only extraordinary strength but remarkable discipline and determination.
Welcoming the champion home at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts Permanent Secretary, Mr. Kangwa Chileshe, lauded Mwanza’s performance as an embodiment of Zambia’s growing presence in international sports.
“Paul’s achievements remind us all of the power of perseverance and national pride. He has demonstrated that Zambian athletes can reach the pinnacle of world competition,” Mr. Chileshe said. “The New Dawn Government remains committed to nurturing talent and building robust support systems that enable athletes to thrive.”
For his part, Mwanza expressed heartfelt appreciation for the overwhelming support from government, corporate sponsors, and fans alike. He emphasized his desire to use his platform not only to compete but to promote the Strongman sport within Zambia and mentor emerging athletes.
“This is a proud moment, not just for me, but for every young Zambian with big dreams,” Mwanza said. “I am determined to help develop this sport locally and inspire others to believe in their strength and potential.”
Looking ahead, the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts reaffirmed its strategic focus on expanding sports infrastructure, strengthening talent identification, and enhancing athlete welfare.
