The Vice President of the Republic of Zambia, Madam W.K. Mutale Nalumango, visited Mandevu Constituency to assess the impact of floods on affected families.
Speaking during her visit, Madam Nalumango emphasized her role as a key figure in managing disaster response, representing the President of the Republic, Dr. Hakainde Hichilema.
“I am here in the name of the President, who cannot be in all places at the same time,” she stated, reaffirming the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by citizens.
Highlighting the causes of the current flooding, Madam Nalumango called for collective responsibility, attributing the problem to human activities that obstruct drainage systems.
“We prayed to God for rain, but we won’t pray to God to keep our drainages safe and clean. Our current floods are man-made, and I am warning you, our good people, to stop blocking the drainage system,” she urged.
During the visit, the Vice President also extended her gratitude to the Mandevu Member of Parliament, Hon. Christopher Shakafunswa, for his non-partisan approach to addressing the flood crisis.
“I wish to sincerely appreciate PF Mandevu Constituency Member of Parliament Christopher Shakafunswa for not politicizing the issue of floods in the constituency,” she remarked.
Madam Nalumango reiterated her unwavering dedication to supporting President Hichilema’s vision, stating her commitment to serving the people of Zambia.
The Vice President’s visit underscored the New Dawn Government’s dedication to its citizens, emphasizing that every affected Zambian matters.
“Every affected citizen impacts the President and the Vice President of the Republic of Zambia,” she concluded,
highlighting the administration’s resolve to address the challenges faced by communities across the nation.
Meanwhile, Mandevu Member of Parliament, Christopher Shakafuswa, expressed gratitude to the New Dawn Government for their prompt intervention.
Speaking at the same event, Shakafuswa commended the government, particularly the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU), for their quick response to the flooding that has impacted nearly 300 residents in his constituency.
“The DMMU has provided vital assistance, including food, non-food relief items and rental support, to help flood victims relocate to safer areas and prevent disease outbreaks,” Mr. Shakafuswa said.
