Lusaka, 4th November 2025 — The Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) has directed telecommunications infrastructure companies Infratel and IHS Towers to present concrete measures within 21 days to strengthen network resilience across the country.
Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka, ZICTA Director General Eng. Collins Mbulo said the authority had issued mandatory directives to all Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and tower providers to:
- Expand network coverage, especially in rural areas;
- Ensure backup power systems for uninterrupted service delivery; and
- Adopt renewable energy solutions to enhance network reliability.
Eng. Mbulo emphasized that Zambians deserve reliable, high-quality communication services, warning that failure to comply with these directives would attract regulatory action.
The press briefing followed a closed-door meeting between ZICTA and Chief Executive Officers from the four major mobile service providers — MTN, Airtel, ZAMTEL, and Zedmobile — as well as CEOs from Infratel and IHS Towers.
ZICTA reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that every citizen, regardless of location, has access to dependable mobile communication services as part of its ongoing Quality of Service Improvement Programme.
