‎Police in Zimba District have opened investigations into the sudden and suspicious death of a local teacher whose body was discovered at his residence under unclear circumstances.

‎The deceased has been identified as Mr. Mutale Enny, 28, who taught at Chilaba Primary School in Chief Nyawa’s area. According to a statement issued by Southern Province Deputy Police Commanding Officer Moono F. Namalongo, Mr. Enny’s body was found on July 22, 2025, around 14:00 hours in his house at the school’s teachers’ compound.

‎The incident was reported to Zimba Police Post at 15:35 hours by the Head Teacher, Mr. Takaiza Dipa John, 32, who, together with Deputy Head Teacher Mr. Muya Gilbert, 29, discovered Mr. Enny’s lifeless body lying on his bedroom floor.

‎Reports indicate that Mr. Enny was last seen alive on the morning of July 21, 2025, when Mr. Muya visited his residence after noticing his absence from duty and found him consuming an alcoholic beverage locally known as First Choice. Mr. Muya left after a brief interaction due to Mr. Enny’s state of intoxication.

‎Concerned by his continued absence from work, the two school administrators returned the following day and found the door to Mr. Enny’s house unlocked, leading to the discovery of his body.

‎Police have classified the incident as a sudden and unnatural death and have commenced investigations to establish the circumstances leading to Mr. Enny’s demise. Preliminary information suggests that the teacher, who lived alone and did not possess a mobile phone, had no known health concerns, according to his colleagues.

‎Authorities have appealed to members of the public with any information related to the case to come forward as investigations continue.
