The Lusaka Provincial Administration has commended the ongoing construction works on the Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriageway, citing strict adherence to quality standards and notable progress, with a 16-kilometre section of the northbound carriageway under Lot 1 set to open to traffic soon.

Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary, Engineer. Joe Kalusa, who led a technical inspection of the 70km Lusaka-to-Chibombo stretch, expressed satisfaction with the workmanship and on-site quality assurance systems in place.

“After reviewing both the physical works and laboratory processes for quality control, I can confidently say the project under Lot 1 meets expected standards. We are 100 percent satisfied with the level of diligence and quality being delivered,” Eng. Kalusa stated.

The Permanent Secretary noted that the deployment of high-capacity equipment, availability of materials, and experienced workforce have all contributed to the project’s strong performance. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing any emerging challenges swiftly to maintain project momentum.

He added that once the 16km northbound segment is opened—following the installation of road furniture—it will ease congestion and reduce traffic accidents on one of Zambia’s busiest routes.

“The phased opening of this dual carriageway is a clear milestone under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, who has consistently demonstrated commitment to delivering on infrastructure promises made to the Zambian people,” Eng. Kalusa said.

Meanwhile, Road Development Agency (RDA) Lusaka Province Roads Engineer, Mr. Pandeki Chabala, confirmed that the road is being constructed to internationally recognized standards. He highlighted technical specifications including a 200mm stone base and 50mm asphaltic concrete layer, contributing to a total carriageway depth of 700mm—engineered to withstand significant traffic loads.

“Progress under Lot 1 is commendable. The 16km segment we’ve completed is structurally sound and we’re now preparing it for handover. Once operational, this will allow us to shift vehicles and commence rehabilitation on the existing carriageway,” Mr. Chabala explained.

The Lusaka-Ndola dual carriageway, a transformative 327km infrastructure initiative, is divided into five Lots:

Lot 1 (Lusaka to Chibombo) is under Lusaka Province

Lots 2 and 3 (Chibombo to Kapiri Mposhi) are managed by Central Province

Lots 4 and 5 (Kapiri Mposhi to Ndola and Masangano-Fisenge Road into Luanshya) fall under Copperbelt Province.

This flagship project represents the New Dawn Government’s strategic push to modernize transport corridors, improve road safety, and catalyze economic activity along Zambia’s busiest trade route.
