In a significant boost to rural development efforts, the Government of Zambia, in partnership with World Vision, has enhanced access to safe water and sanitation facilities for communities in North-Western Province.

North-Western Province Minister, Hon. Robert Lihefu, officially received two major projects — the 100,000-liter Mundanya piped water system and newly constructed ablution blocks — handed over by World Vision to serve residents of Manyinga and Mufumbwe districts.

Speaking at the handover ceremony in Mundanya, Hon. Lihefu praised World Vision for its steadfast collaboration with the government, emphasizing that the provision of clean water is a key priority under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema. He noted that such partnerships are critical to achieving the government’s vision of improved living standards for all Zambians.

“Our government recognizes that access to safe water is a foundation for health, education, and economic empowerment,” Hon. Lihefu stated. “We are deeply grateful to World Vision for complementing our efforts in reaching the most underserved communities.”

Traditional leaders, represented by Senior Chief Sikufele, also expressed profound gratitude, highlighting the immediate and long-term benefits the projects would bring to their communities. They emphasized that the new infrastructure would drastically improve daily life, particularly in promoting better hygiene and reducing waterborne diseases.

World Vision’s Country Director representative, Ekwase Msoni, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to working hand-in-hand with the government to uplift vulnerable populations. She commended the government for fostering a supportive environment that enables NGOs to deliver impactful programs, particularly in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) sectors.

The ceremony was attended by key provincial and district stakeholders, including Deputy Permanent Secretary Mr. Luckson Mulumbi, District Commissioners, civic leaders, and heads of government departments, underscoring the strong public-private partnership that is driving rural development initiatives.

Through initiatives like these, the New Dawn Government and its partners continue to make meaningful strides toward a Zambia where every citizen enjoys the basic human right of access to clean water and dignified sanitation facilities.
